Some pets feel calmer at home. Others may have trouble traveling because of age, illness, mobility challenges, anxiety, or end-of-life needs. For established clients, Charleston Heights Veterinary Clinic offers veterinary house calls throughout North Charleston, SC to help pets receive care in a familiar setting when an in-clinic visit is not the best option.

House calls are available by appointment for established clients only and must be scheduled in advance. Because our veterinarians also care for patients at the clinic throughout the day, house calls are not intended for same-day urgent or emergency requests.

If you are an established client and would like to schedule a house call, call (843) 554-4361. Our team will help you talk through your pet’s needs and schedule the visit when availability allows.

When Might a House Call Be Best?

A house call can be helpful when your pet needs care but travel to the clinic feels stressful, painful, or difficult. It can also give pets a quieter experience in the comfort of their home.

Veterinary House Call Services We May Provide

Our veterinarians can perform several routine and supportive services during a house call, depending on your pet’s needs and the home setting.

House call services may include:

When you call, our team will ask questions about your pet and the reason for the visit. This helps us determine whether a house call is appropriate or whether your pet would receive better care at our clinic.

What to Expect During a House Call Visit

Before the visit, our team will help schedule a day and time based on veterinarian availability. We may also ask about your pet’s symptoms, temperament, mobility, current medications, and where in the home your pet feels most comfortable.

During the house call, our veterinarian will examine your pet, talk with you about any concerns, and perform the services that can safely be completed in the home. We’ll explain what we find, answer your questions, and discuss the next step if additional care is needed.

To help the visit go smoothly, please choose a quiet, well-lit space where your pet can be safely handled. Dogs should be leashed or gently secured, and cats should be kept in a smaller room before we arrive so they do not hide.

What If My Pet Needs Diagnostics or Treatment We Cannot Do at Home?

Some veterinary care requires the equipment, space, and support available at our animal hospital. X-rays, certain procedures, advanced diagnostics, surgical care, and more involved treatments usually cannot be completed during a house call.

If your pet needs care that cannot be provided at home, we’ll explain why and discuss your options. In some cases, our staff may be able to help arrange transportation to Charleston Heights Veterinary Clinic so your pet can receive the diagnostics or treatment they need at our facility.

Our goal is to make the safest recommendation for your pet. A house call can be a helpful option, but the clinic may be the better setting when your pet needs imaging, closer monitoring, or equipment that cannot travel.
